So Much Rain

I honestly can’t remember it raining so much in Cornwall.

I tried to go to Yellow Sands today but unfortunately the Harlyn road and the overflow car park for the  beach are too flooded to pass, one car tried but didn’t make it. I turned round and tried to get to St Merryn and  come into Harlyn that way but the bridge by the fishing lake was  also flooded and the bridge was closed off. At this point I decided to go home be fore I got stuck and could’n make it but I did stop and take some photos on the way.

Come relax a bit

The madness of the school holidays is now over and its back to a more sedate pace. Martin and I had a day out at Trebah Gardens, Mawnan Smith Near Falmouth, a  beautiful tropical garden with nooks and crannies to explore and allsorts of plants, water gardens and falls, even a weeping Japanese tree who’s autumn foliage smells of burnt sugar and Gunnear with leaves as big as Martin. They have a small amphitheatre where they put on various plays  and live music from May to September, I didn’t know that, I will keep an eye out for a list of next years events. Its well worth a visit, the cake’s not bad either.

New Garden to Explore

New Garden to Explore

We found a lovely new garden to explore near St Austell called Pinetum, it has 10 separate gardens a woodland walk and a pond with Canada geese over 30 acres.

The gardens have such a variety of trees and flowers even a wedding cake tree something I’ve never heard of before but it was so pretty I have put a picture of it below plus a few more as there was so much to see.

Easters holidays here again, can you believe it

Up till now we have kept busy with the usual decorating and maintenance, if it stands still long enough it will be painted, new fencing around the garden, new flooring put in Sharmalyn House, balcony maintenance, not an easy job when it’s on the second floor finding workman who aren’t afraid of heights but thankfully we did.

We have had some really lovely weather and some not so nice, one week it’s overcoats the next its sandals, but we did have a sunny day to visit Trewithen gardens on Thursday, you can see from the photos how lovely the flowers are again this year.

No shortage of gardens and many other things to see and do during the Easter holidays.

We hope to see you here.

Almost half term already

All of a sudden its half term again next week, thankfully the weather has improved and we have lovely sunny weather, still only about 13c but so much better than the snow we had a few weeks ago, not something we tend to get down here in Cornwall so when it came all was at a standstill in no time as no one had remembered to grit the roads, Martin got stuck twice and had to turn back and  stay at Yellow Sands over night, I was lucky and managed to get back very slowly just before the roads became impassable.

But now we have the daffodils, snow drops and iris out in force so we know spring is here and its time to get the paint brushes out and the builders in and get the whole place ready for the 2019 season .

We hope to see you then.

Happy New Year

Can you believe another years gone by and we are again deciding on resolutions we wont keep for very long no matter how hard we try, after all we are only human.

Spring is almost here the daffs have started to show them selves and I can’t  wait to see the first little yellow head to burst out.

We hope you all have a happy and healthy 2019  and look forward to seeing you at Yellow Sands again.

Merry Christmas

We would like to wish all the guests who stayed with us throughout the year  a very Merry Christmas.

Its going to be good walking weather here for the holidays according to the BBC weather man, on Christmas day it should be 11c with light cloud and on Boxing day 10c with sunny intervals, just perfect for walking off all that over indulgence, what a good excuse to indulge more.

We are full for Christmas and this year one family is celebrating their 25th Christmas at Yellow Sands – how time flies!

One of our other guests came as a child and now comes with her husband and own child,  long may it continue.

Merry Christmas from

Martin and Debbie
